  1. We thought it was a very ambitious lesson. We liked that it would push and challenge students.

We thought that since you were exploring the ideas of blogs you could have this assignment be a part of that blog.

Your personal example was very helpful and is a great sample of teacher modeling.

Because of its length and varied genres, it's a great way of sneaking in a lot of direct instruction on writing.

Performance rubric brings a whole new meaningful dimension to project.

Great way of maybe introducing genres of writing at the beginning of the year to show students that writing has many different faces.
    Possible accommodations:
Have a brainstorming discussions about themes that you've read about in class to help students make decisions about their topics or have students share some of their possible ideas to give other students ideas on topics.
Model some of your sample with the students so they can get an idea of how it connects to the overall theme.
Narrowing choice down to something like "hero" and having student choose a hero.
For younger grades, maybe cut back on number of entries but balance it according to student interest.
Using it as a year long project to show the progression of the student as a writer
