Ideas for differentiation: Give a list from which to choose; provide a list of participles, sensory details
Elementary: Spend an entire lesson analyzing the poem first...use a different more developmentally appropriate poem; write a group poem then move to individual poems
We liked: how she pulled out the senses to make sure we were all on the same page
Consider: giving students song lyrics to analyze first before actual poetry...might create a sense of relevance..can also help them to hear the rhythm and other poetic devices. Maybe even use lyrics instead of student work if the goal is to identify poetic devices and parts of speech, etc. (Students might feel less vulnerable that way.)
We liked being able to actually write a poem and have a peer say something positive about it...showing what IS there as opposed to what ISN'T.
